Set in the fast-paced world of daytime dramatic television (AKA "soap operas"), this is the story of an aspiring actress, Neely (Altman), whose career takes off when she's cast as a coma patient on the popular show, "Heartbreak Hospital".
As she becomes more famous, her new position creates tension with her famous Italian chef boyfriend, Tonio (Bichir), whose recent attempt to launch his own line of pasta sauces failed. New complications also arise in the form of the soap opera's leading man (Shea), the leading lady (Venora) who's a long-time admirer and would-be seducer of Tonio's and a fan (Clarkson) dangerously obsessed with the show.
Can Neely and Tonio stay together, or is their shared fame going to tear their relationship apart?
